1 Dead, Others Injured As Suspected Cultists Clash In Kwara State
A tragic incident unfolded in the Pakata area of Ilorin West Local Government Area of Kwara State, where suspected cult groups clashed, leading to the death of one person and several others sustaining injuries.
The clash, which occurred over the weekend, also resulted in significant property damage, including the destruction of numerous vehicles. This violent confrontation has raised concerns about the escalating cult-related violence in the state.
According to reports from our correspondent, the conflict erupted when a suspected cultist identified as Abiodun allegedly shot and killed Yusuf, a member of a rival cult group, during a dispute.
In retaliation, members of Yusuf's group launched a fierce attack on Saturday at the Gana Compound, believed to be Abiodun's residence. Armed with guns, cutlasses, and other weapons, the retaliatory group sought vengeance for their fallen comrade. This retaliatory attack led to the destruction of over six cars and left multiple individuals injured.
An eyewitness described the chaotic scenes, stating, "When the gang arrived, they started firing indiscriminately, causing people to flee in all directions for safety."
The situation escalated as the attackers stormed the compound, targeting and assaulting Abiodun's family members with machetes, resulting in several injuries.
The Kwara Police Command has confirmed the incident, with the Command's spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi, stating, "Investigations are still ongoing."
The primary suspect in the initial killing, Abiodun, is reported to have fled the area following the incident and is currently at large.
