19-Year-Old Son of Former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki Found Dead at UC Berkeley
Marco Troper, the 19-year-old son of former YouTube CEO Susan Wojcicki, tragically passed away.
Troper, a freshman at UC Berkeley's campus, was found unresponsive on Tuesday afternoon at his dormitory.
The Berkeley Fire Department, after discovering him around 4:23 p.m. local time, alerted campus police, who immediately initiated life-saving measures, as per a statement from the University of California Police Department, Berkeley.
Despite their efforts, Troper was pronounced dead shortly after.
A cause of death has yet to be determined, but campus police have ruled out foul play. Troper's grandmother, Esther Wojcicki, suspects a drug overdose, stating "He ingested a drug, and we don't know what was in it. … One thing we do know, it was a drug."
Esther fondly remembers her grandson as "loving" and a "math genius," describing him as everything one could wish for in a son and grandson. She expressed her devastation in a Thursday Facebook post, highlighting Troper's promising start at UC Berkeley and the love he shared with his family and friends.
In an interview, Esther emphasized the family's desire to prevent similar tragedies, stating, "Tragedy is very hard to sustain...but I think the main thing is that we need to push forward to see what we can do to help other people so there won’t be any other kids who end up like Marco."
