Dramatic moment SWAT rams house with a huge TANK and launch raid as three US Marshals are shot dead and five cops injured in bloody standoff: Gunman killed as boy, 17, and woman arrested
Video footage depicted the dramatic moment when a SWAT team forcefully entered a North Carolina house after three officers serving a warrant were killed. The officers were pursuing a felon wanted for possessing a firearm at the residence on Monday, according to police.
The officers were initially shot at by the wanted suspect as they approached the suburban home in Charlotte. Three officers were killed, and five more were injured. The police managed to fatally shoot the felon in the front yard, as stated by Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Johnny Jennings.
Another individual inside the home then fired at officers using a high-powered rifle, which was found at the scene, Jennings mentioned. Following a three-hour standoff involving armored vehicles crashing into the house, a woman and a 17-year-old boy were discovered inside. They are currently being interrogated, according to Jennings.
Jennings expressed, "Today is an absolute tragic day for the city of Charlotte and for the profession of law enforcement." One member of the task force was injured, while the Marshal's Service confirmed one agent was killed, not releasing the name. Additionally, officers from the NC Department of Adult Corrections were among those killed.
Four Charlotte-Mecklenburg officers were also shot while attempting to rescue the wounded officers. One officer remains critically injured, Jennings reported.
The chaotic scene involved gunfire for several minutes, as described by neighbors. TV footage showed the intense situation, with ambulances rushing victims to hospitals and armored vehicles scattered throughout the neighborhood.
The last marshal shot and killed in the line of duty in November 2018.
The Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, a collaboration of agencies, has been active in apprehending fugitives.
