Ex-Yobe gov Bukar Ibrahim dies in Saudi Arabia at 73
The late Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim, former governor of Yobe State, has left an indelible mark on the history of the state. His passing at the age of 73 in Saudi Arabia after a prolonged illness is indeed a moment of reflection.
Having served as the governor from May 1999 to May 2007, Ibrahim played a pivotal role in shaping the state's landscape. His initiatives, including the division of the state's four emirates into 13 during his first term, showcased his commitment to governance.
Despite the reversal of this decision during the military regime of Sani Abacha, Ibrahim re-implemented the new emirates during his second term after the return to democracy.
His political journey continued as he was elected to the Senate for the Yobe East constituency in 2007 and successfully secured re-election in 2011 on the ANPP platform. His contributions to the legislative and political spheres were significant and noteworthy.
The news of his demise has been met with shock and regret by the current Yobe State Governor, Mai Buni. The governor expressed condolences and announced that Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim would be laid to rest in Saudi Arabia.
The state government will oversee all aspects of the funeral to accord the late governor a dignified state burial and honor.
In this difficult time, Governor Buni urged the people and friends of Yobe State to join in prayer for the peaceful repose of Senator Bukar Abba Ibrahim's soul. May Allah forgive his shortcomings and grant him a place in Aljannatu Firdaus.
