Fire guts plank market in Onitsha, Anambra State

A fire erupted on Thursday midnight, causing significant damage to a section of the Ọgbọ Osisi Market, also known as the plank market, located at the Onitsha Head Bridge in Anambra State. The cause of the fire remains unknown as of now.


Confirming the incident, Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that police personnel, led by a divisional police officer, are actively working to contain the blaze. Additionally, several individuals from the community have joined efforts to extinguish the fire.


"The DPO and our team, alongside community members, are making concerted efforts to control the fire," SP Tochukwu Ikenga mentioned. "The Fire Service has also been notified, and the situation is being closely monitored. At present, there are no reported casualties, and the extent of property damage is yet to be determined."


The spokesperson added that further updates will be provided as the operation progresses and more information becomes available.
