Florida woman tried to sell her 1-year-old daughter for $500
A 33-year-old Florida woman, Jessica Woods, was arrested after allegedly attempting to sell her 1-year-old daughter for $500 outside a business in Palatka, according to Palatka Police.
Woods faces charges of child abuse, child neglect, and abandonment of a child following the incident on March 5.
According to police reports, Woods had been lingering outside the business with her 18-month-old daughter for several days. An anonymous employee of the business approached Woods, offering assistance, but Woods declined and then allegedly offered to sell her child to the employee for $500.
When the employee refused, Woods reportedly walked away, leaving her daughter behind. The concerned citizen then took the child to the Palatka Police Department, where officers and the department’s victim advocate provided care until the Department of Children and Families took custody of the child. The child has since been placed in foster care.
Woods was located and arrested two days later. She is currently held at the Putnam County Jail on a $255,000 bond.
Jail records reveal Woods has been arrested six times since October 2021 on charges including cocaine possession, trespassing, and larceny, among others.
