Recently released bodycam footage depicts the moment Florida authorities apprehended David Contreras, 52, following an altercation that resulted in the fatal shooting of his 21-year-old son, Eric Contreras, on November 3, 2023, at their Kendall residence. Facing a second-degree murder charge, Contreras was seen on the footage tearfully confessing to the police his involvement in the incident as they arrested him.
Prior to the arrival of law enforcement, Ring doorbell footage captured Contreras informing his wife about the tragic event, confirming Eric's demise. Subsequently, during a court hearing seeking bond release, Contreras was observed visibly distressed as a recording of his 911 call played, expressing remorse and bewilderment over the situation.
According to reports, Eric, described as an amiable college student, had a history of conflicts with his parents. The fatal altercation occurred following their return from a family trip, prompting Contreras to resort to lethal force, as stated in an arrest report citing "unknown reasons."
Contreras's legal counsel emphasized his client's mental health struggles, suggesting their potential influence on the tragic outcome. Despite entering a not-guilty plea in November 2023, Contreras remains incarcerated without bond, with his attorneys striving for his release pending trial.
The ongoing proceedings are slated to resume in March.
