I stabbed AAUA female student to death to steal her iPhone XR — Suspect
A 21-year-old final year student at Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko, AAUA, in Ondo State, Olubodun Sanni, has admitted to fatally stabbing a 20-year-old female student of the same institution, Adekunle Ifeoluwa, over her iPhone XR.
The victim, Adebisi, was a 300-level economics student at the institution and resided in an off-campus hostel with her assailant.
According to police sources, the suspect confessed that he was drawn to the victim because of her phone and devised a plan to befriend her.
"The suspect confessed, even before her parents, that on that tragic day, he approached the victim to transfer some files from her phone to his iPad.
"The unsuspecting female student agreed but didn’t allow him into her room, stating that her phone battery was low.
"The suspect then left, claiming he would return later with his power bank to charge the victim’s phone. He returned late to the victim’s room and was granted entry. Once inside, he seized the victim by the neck and stabbed her in the chest with a knife he had brought along.
"Afterward, the suspect took the victim’s phone, destroyed her SIM card, and inserted his own. Police investigation revealed that he used the phone during the day and concealed it inside an unfinished building near the hostel."
Vanguard learned from police detectives that the SIM card was active, and they traced the call history to the suspect's mother, who was subsequently apprehended.
"After interrogation, the mother led detectives to her son’s hostel, where he was arrested," a source disclosed.
Parading the alleged perpetrator, a Geology student at the institution, alongside other suspects, the state Police Commissioner, Abayomi Oladipo, stated in Akure that modern technology was utilized to track the stolen phone by the suspect.
