Social critic Aisha Yesufu has strongly criticized the Kano State Islamic Police, Hisbah, condemning what she perceives as their "political sharia" practices.

Aisha stated that the focus of Hisbah should be on the children who are roaming the streets, abandoned by their parents, she emphasized, suggesting that the priorities of Hisbah should be reconsidered.

Her remarks were prompted by a recent ruling from the Kano High Court, which imposed a ban on popular TikToker, Murja Kunya, from appearing on all social media platforms.

This ruling stemmed from charges related to misdemeanor, improper conduct, and immoral behavior under Islamic laws of morality.

In response to these developments, Aisha questioned the rationale behind Hisbah targeting Murja Kunya instead of addressing more pressing societal issues, such as the welfare of abandoned children.

Her comments reflect concerns about potential violations of free speech rights and highlight broader criticisms of the enforcement priorities of Hisbah.

She wrote: “Hisbah should be ashamed of itself and the political sharia it practices. Children are roaming the streets abandoned by their parents and that is not the focus of Hisbah. Neither are they focused on child support that is not being paid. It is Murja that is their problem.”
