The Nigerian Army Special Investigations Bureau has arrested a soldier in connection with the attempted kidnapping of an Abuja-based entrepreneur, Justice Ezeh, in September 2023.

This development coincided with operatives from the Federal Capital Territory Police Command apprehending an accomplice, a civilian who had impersonated a soldier during the incident.

However, a third suspect remains at large. Both the Army and the police have detained the arrested soldier and civilian, respectively.

Captain Chime from the Nigerian Army disclosed the arrest during a telephone conversation and invited our correspondent to assist with the ongoing investigation.

"We have apprehended the soldier among them, and he is currently in our custody. We request your assistance in furthering our investigation into the matter," Captain Chime stated.

Meanwhile, SP Josephine Adeh, the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, also confirmed the arrest of the second suspect by the police.

"Yes, we have the second suspect in custody, and our investigation is progressing," Adeh confirmed.

The incident, which occurred on September 16, 2023, saw neighbors thwarting an attempt by hoodlums disguised as Nigerian Army officers to kidnap Mr. Ezeh at his residence in Dogongada village, Kabusa-Lokogoma area of the Federal Capital Territory.

The kidnappers arrived in a navy blue Peugeot car with tinted glass and no rear number plate, bearing a front number plate AX-506-BWR.

According to witnesses, the three kidnappers, two in Nigerian Army uniform and one in plain clothes, arrived around 12 pm. One of them entered Ezeh's room, attempting to drag him into the car. However, the swift intervention of neighbors prevented the kidnapping.

In response, Ezeh called for decisive action against criminal impersonators, thanking his neighbors for preventing a potentially fatal outcome.

He recounted, "Thanks to my neighbors, I could have been dead by now, or those guys would have just kept me somewhere asking for ransom."

The FCT Police Command and the Nigerian Army spokespersons had pledged to pursue the suspects and bring them to justice, emphasizing the dangers posed by criminal impersonators and their use of vehicles without complete number plates in perpetrating crimes.
