Federal officials have released new photos from their investigation into the helicopter crash that tragically claimed six lives south of Las Vegas last Friday.
The crash involved an EC130 Airbus charter helicopter near Halloran Springs, California, a few miles northeast of Baker in remote San Bernardino County.
Michael Graham from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) revealed that flight track data indicated the helicopter was flying along Interstate 15 at an altitude of approximately 1,000 to 1,500 feet above ground level. The data shows the helicopter making a slight right turn towards the south of the interstate before experiencing a gradual descent with increasing ground speed.
The flight track data ceased approximately a quarter-mile from the wreckage site, coinciding with rainfall in the area at the time of the crash.
Although the helicopter lacked a voice recorder, officials have recovered electronic and onboard equipment for further examination. The wreckage is slated to be relocated to a secure location for detailed analysis.
According to Federal Aviation Administration records, the helicopter was registered to Burbank-based company Orbic Air. It departed from Palm Springs, California, en route to Boulder City, Nevada.
Among the tragic fatalities were Herbert Wigwe, chief executive of Access Bank, his wife Chizoba, their son Chizi, and former Nigeria Stock Exchange chairman Abimbola Ogunbanjo.
