Police gun down three suspected armed robbers, Arrest one, in Akwa Ibom State
The Akwa Ibom Police Command has reported the successful neutralization of three suspected armed robbers and the arrest of one during a robbery at the NDDC Hall/National Museum, Ikot Inyang village in Ikot Ekpene LGA. This information was conveyed in a statement released by the command’s spokesperson, CSP Odiko Macdon, on Tuesday.
According to the statement, on March 20, the command’s Crack Team of Ikot Ekpene Division swiftly responded to a distress call and confronted around 10 armed robbers. In the ensuing gun battle, three suspects were neutralized, while one was apprehended. The remaining suspects managed to escape, albeit with gunshot wounds.
Items recovered from the scene included a locally-made pistol, one expended cartridge, one live cartridge, and vandalized wire cables, among other items. The command emphasized that this gang was known for robberies in the Ikot Ekpene area and its surroundings.
The statement also mentioned that, in line with the directives of the Police Commissioner, Waheed Ayilara, the command proactively pursued the criminal elements, taking the fight to their hideouts to ensure a peaceful environment in Akwa Ibom.
