Police hunt killers of Akwa Ibom brothers
The Akwa Ibom State Police Command has initiated a manhunt for the perpetrators of the heinous act that claimed the lives of two elderly brothers in Nnung Iyoho, Afaha Offiong, Nsit Ibom Local Government Area of the state.
According to reports from the scene, Enefiok Etuk, aged 70, and Ebongeti Etuk, aged 50, were ruthlessly murdered in their home last Thursday around 11pm by unidentified gunmen.
Ime Etuk, the eldest brother who narrowly escaped the attack, recounted the harrowing ordeal to journalists. He described how the assailants stormed their family house, brutally killing his brothers and injuring the wife of the younger victim, who was nursing a baby.
Ime recalled the chilling moments of the attack, stating, “From my room, I overheard my fourth brother, the one that was physically challenged, calling for help, shouting that they were about to kill him. This was about some minutes to 11pm, and the whole chaos ended five minutes later. His door was forced open. I heard the wife lamenting, ‘you have stabbed the baby’. Ebongeti, my fourth brother, was taken out of the room, and he was killed at the backyard close to the kitchen.”
He further revealed the gruesome details, explaining, “His head was smashed, and my second brother was taken out of the house through the window and killed also. In the middle of that chaos and cry for help, I escaped into the bush and spent the night inside until dawn.”
Ime continued, “Around 6am, I came out from the bush, went to my second brother’s room, and called him, but he didn’t answer. As I turned to his window side, I saw his wrapper by the window, and as I moved further, I saw his corpse in a pool of blood. I reported the incident to the family head of Nung Etukakpan and complained to my enlarged family head, Obong Nnah Ikpe.”
Responding to inquiries on the matter, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Odiko Macdon, confirmed that investigations were ongoing. Macdon stated, “No arrest has been made thus far, but the Commissioner of Police, Waheed Ayilara, has ordered a discreet investigation. We are closing ranks and will soon catch up with the culprits.”
