Less than three weeks after a three-storey building collapsed at the Odu-Igbo section of the Ochanja Market in Onitsha, Anambra State, resulting in at least six fatalities, another building collapse occurred. This time, a five-storey building collapsed at Basden Street, Fegge, in the same city.

Fortunately, three individuals who were trapped in the rubble of the collapsed building have been rescued. Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and stated that security personnel were dispatched to coordinate the ongoing rescue operation.

The cause of the collapse is yet to be determined. However, both Ikenga and Executive Secretary of the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency, Mr. Paul Odenigbo, confirmed that there were no casualties. Odenigbo assured that efforts to ascertain the cause of the collapse are underway, and updates will be provided as the investigation progresses.
