The Whitman Fire Department responded to the scene around 4:15 p.m. on Wednesday.

A 10-year-old boy was rescued after getting himself stuck in the chimney on the roof of his Massachusetts home on Wednesday, according to local reports.

The boy had climbed out of a second-floor window and onto the roof of his home in Whitman, about 25 miles south of Boston, around 4:15 p.m., according to a spokesperson with the town’s fire department.

Police were quickly able to free the boy.

He then lowered himself into the top of the chimney and was unable to free himself, officials said. Crews from the Whitman Fire Department quickly extricated the child from the chimney, and fortunately, he was uninjured.

The boy’s relieved father said he was at work when he received a phone call from his other son, who had seen his brother climb onto the roof. The dad immediately phoned 911 and rushed home. However, by the time he arrived, the boy had already been freed and was back on the ground.

Fire officials said the boy was not injured.

Photos taken at the scene show firefighters on the roof prying the boy from the chimney, where he appeared to be stuck from the waist down. His hands also appeared to be trapped. A man can be seen hugging the boy outside the home.

Photos from the scene show the boy and man embracing once he was freed from the chimney.
