Mia McQuillin, an 18-year-old gap year student from Oregon, has been arrested after allegedly throwing her newborn baby out of a hotel window in Paris with the umbilical cord still attached.

McQuillin, who was traveling through Europe with EF Gap Year, reportedly gave birth inside her second-floor room at the Ibis Styles Hotel before allegedly hurling the infant out the window. Witnesses say hotel staff had no idea she was pregnant, and authorities are investigating the possibility of pregnancy denial—a condition where a woman remains unaware of her pregnancy until labor.

Emergency services rushed the baby to the hospital, but the child was pronounced dead. The U.S. Embassy in Paris confirmed it is monitoring the case, calling the incident a "tragedy." A police investigation is ongoing.
