20-Year-Old Man Arrested for Allegedly Killing Father with Machete in Jigawa State

A 20-year-old man, Muhammad Salisu, has been arrested for allegedly killing his father, Salisu Abubakar, with a machete in the Bakin Kasuwa Quarters of Sara District, Gwaram Local Government Area, Jigawa State. The tragic incident occurred around 10:00 a.m. and was confirmed by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Shi’isu Adam, in a statement released in Dutse, the state capital.


According to police reports, Muhammad attacked his father with a machete, inflicting severe injuries on the elder Salisu’s shoulder, neck, and chest. The victim was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre in Birnin Kudu for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead on arrival by a medical doctor.


Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer in Sara and his patrol team were immediately mobilized to the scene. The victim was evacuated to the hospital, and his remains were later released to family members for burial.


The police arrested the suspect at the scene and recovered the machete used in the attack. The Commissioner of Police for Jigawa State, AT Abdullahi, has directed that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Dutse for thorough investigation.


The motive behind the killing is still unknown, and police have launched a comprehensive probe to uncover the circumstances leading to the gruesome incident. The suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation.


The police command reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice is served and called on the public to provide any information that could assist in the ongoing investigation. Authorities have assured the public of a transparent and professional handling of the case.
