A 24-year-old Texas woman is in custody after allegedly shooting her boyfriend to death as he returned to their shared apartment to retrieve his belongings.
Derricka Ross was arrested Sunday night at the Derby at Steeplechase apartment complex in Houston, Texas. Authorities responded to the scene after receiving multiple 911 calls, beginning at 9:14 p.m., reporting a disturbance. Moments later, additional calls were made regarding gunfire at the same location.
Harris County Sheriff’s deputies arrived to find the body of 22-year-old Javion Williams near a stairwell outside the apartment building. According to Major Earl Dean of the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, Williams had sustained a fatal gunshot wound. Dean confirmed that a woman matching the suspect description was taken into custody at the scene and that a firearm was recovered.

Dean described the case as an “active investigation,” noting that several individuals who may have witnessed the incident were being interviewed by law enforcement.
Sheriff Ed Gonzalez later confirmed that Ross and Williams were involved in a dating relationship. According to preliminary findings, Williams had returned to the apartment to collect his belongings when the shooting occurred. No additional suspects are believed to be involved.
Ross was booked into the Harris County Jail on a charge of murder and is currently being held on a $150,000 bond. She is expected to appear in court on Wednesday.
