Thirty-five cars of a Union Pacific freight train derailed Tuesday afternoon near the small town of Gordon, Texas, prompting a hazardous materials response but resulting in no injuries or evacuations.
The incident occurred around 2 p.m. just east of Gordon, about 65 miles southwest of Fort Worth. Union Pacific officials confirmed all personnel were accounted for and no injuries were reported.
Aerial footage from the scene showed multiple train cars stacked and twisted along the tracks in a rural area, with smoke and small grass fires visible nearby. Emergency crews treated the situation as a potential hazardous materials incident, though it was not immediately clear what the train cars were carrying.

The Palo Pinto County Emergency Services District 1 reported that none of the railroad cars were leaking their contents. “The situation is currently stable, but not yet fully controlled,” officials stated. Fire crews were actively working to contain and extinguish the small grass fires, with no structures currently at risk.
Union Pacific crews were dispatched to the site to assist with recovery efforts, while the Palo Pinto Fire Department worked to control the blaze.
