A 20-year-old man dressed in a furry costume was violently assaulted outside a bustling shopping center in Adelaide while participating in an election-themed performance. Dennis Gunn, a content creator, was holding a sign that read "Vote 1 Furry Party" when he was attacked by three unidentified males in Rundle Mall at approximately 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 3.

The shocking incident, which was captured on video, shows Gunn wearing a dog-themed furry head and paws when he was suddenly ambushed. The footage reveals him being punched and kicked, including a forceful flying kick to the head that knocked him to the ground. Moments before the assault, Gunn was seen engaging with a young family, taking photos and high-fiving children at their parents' request.

“It came out of nowhere,” Gunn said, describing how the group began tearing at his costume, punching him, and ultimately removing his furry head before delivering a harsh kick to his head. Friends who were with him attempted to intervene but were unable to stop the attack in time.

Following the assault, Gunn revealed that he has received death threats online after sharing the footage. Despite the threats and injuries, he remains defiant and optimistic, vowing to continue with his public performances. “I’m going to keep public suiting, I’m going to keep performing because I’m not going to let people like that stop me from doing what makes me happy and makes others happy,” he stated.

South Australia Police (SAPOL) confirmed an investigation into the incident is underway. A spokesperson stated that the suspects had fled the scene before police arrived, and that the victim was assessed by paramedics but did not require hospital treatment. Authorities are continuing to pursue leads to identify the assailants.
