A 33-year-old man, Chinazum Nwaubani, has been arrested by the police for allegedly attacking a 14-year-old girl, Felicia Anaba, with a machete in Obete Nchina Village, Ntighauzo community, Obingwa LGA, Abia State. The suspect reportedly assaulted the victim after she resisted his sexual advances.

According to reports, Felicia and her twin brother had gone to fetch firewood in a nearby bush when Nwaubani allegedly approached them with a machete. He attempted to rape the girl but faced strong resistance. Enraged, he allegedly inflicted deep machete cuts on her head, leg, and hand, leaving her unconscious in a pool of blood before fleeing the scene.

The victim’s brother escaped and alerted their father, Chijioke Anaba, who mobilized a search party to rescue Felicia. She was rushed to the hospital in critical condition due to excessive blood loss.

Mr. Anaba accused the Eastern Ngwa Police Division of demanding ₦30,000 to register the case, delaying the arrest of the suspect. He expressed fears that Nwaubani might be released, especially after police insinuated that the suspect was mentally unstable—a claim he strongly denied.

“My daughter was in a coma when we found her. The police asked for money before acting, and now they’re calling the suspect a madman. He is a danger to our community,” Anaba stated. He appealed to the Abia governor’s wife, Priscilla Otti, for assistance, fearing his daughter may suffer permanent disability from the injuries.

However, the Abia State Police Command denied the extortion allegation. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chinaka, stated that no formal complaint had been lodged regarding the monetary demand. She confirmed Nwaubani’s arrest, stating that he ambushed the twins on their father’s farm, attacked Felicia after she refused his advances, and fled before being apprehended.

“The victim is receiving treatment, and investigations are ongoing. We urge anyone with evidence to come forward,” Chinaka said. The police have yet to confirm or deny the suspect’s mental health status but assured the public of a thorough investigation.
