Mexican authorities have arrested a U.S. national allegedly in possession of military-grade weapons and tactical gear, according to an announcement made Saturday by the Secretariat of Security of the State of Mexico.
The man, whose identity has not been disclosed, was taken into custody for "probable involvement in the crimes of disturbing the peace and possession of weapons designated for exclusive use by the Army." Authorities also noted the individual was found carrying a credential labeled with the inscription “CIA.”

According to the security agency, the suspect was in possession of six firearms, several magazines, live ammunition, and a range of tactical equipment. Photos released by officials show rifles, handguns, helmets, tactical vests, pocket knives, and other combat-style gear. Authorities have not confirmed whether the identification was legitimate or forged, and no further information has been provided regarding the suspect’s activities or intentions in Mexico.
The U.S. Department of State acknowledged awareness of the arrest and affirmed its commitment to supporting American citizens detained abroad. “When a U.S. citizen is detained abroad, the department works to provide consular assistance,” a spokesperson said, emphasizing that the safety and security of American citizens is a top priority.
As of now, Mexican officials have not disclosed any details about the origin of the weaponry or the suspect’s reasons for being in the country. The case remains under investigation.
