An American man was killed in a jet ski crash over Labor Day weekend in the Bahamas after colliding with another vessel in the waters off Paradise Island.
The accident occurred on Saturday morning, with officers from the Marine Support Service Branch dispatched to the scene at 11:30 a.m. Authorities said the victim, a U.S. national, was found unresponsive with visible injuries. Medical personnel confirmed that he showed no signs of life. His identity has not yet been publicly released.
The tragedy came the same weekend two other American men were involved in a separate jet ski crash in the same area. On Sunday evening around 6:30 p.m., police responded to another collision when a jet ski carrying two U.S. nationals, ages 42 and 29, lost control and struck a dock near a resort. Both men were treated at the scene by first responders and declined further hospital care.
The U.S. Embassy in the Bahamas has previously raised concerns over jet ski safety and criminal activity linked to operators. In April, officials issued a security alert warning Americans to avoid renting jet skis due to multiple incidents, including sexual assaults and serious accidents. Since August 2024, at least four U.S. citizens have been hospitalized following jet ski crashes in the Bahamas, with two requiring emergency medical evacuation back to the United States.
Due to ongoing risks, U.S. government employees stationed in the Bahamas are prohibited from renting or operating jet skis on both New Providence and Paradise Island.
