At least 15 people have died after the roof of the Jet Set nightclub in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, collapsed in the early hours of Tuesday morning, according to police officials.
The incident occurred while merengue singer Rubby Perez was performing at the venue, a well-known nightclub in the National District. The exact cause of the collapse has not yet been determined.
Juan Manuel Mendez, director of Emergency Management Operations, provided an update around 8 a.m. stating that 101 ambulance transfers to various hospitals had taken place. He noted that the actual number of hospitalized individuals could be higher, as ambulances often transport more than one person at a time.

"We are still working, searching for people in the rubble. We presume that many of them are still alive, that’s why the authorities here with their teams will not stop until we find the last person in that rubble," Mendez said in a video message shared by the Dominican Republic National Police.
Santo Domingo Mayor Carolina Mejía de Garrigó expressed her condolences in a public statement, calling the incident a “terrible tragedy.” She extended sympathy to the families still waiting for news about their loved ones and confirmed that the city’s national disaster response committee has been mobilized in response to the collapse.
Search and rescue efforts remain ongoing as emergency crews continue to comb through the debris in hopes of locating survivors.
