At least 26 people were killed and 14 others injured after a passenger bus overturned down a rocky embankment in Afghanistan early Monday morning. The accident occurred around 3 a.m. in Arghandi, on the outskirts of Kabul, when a 580-model coach traveling from Kandahar to the capital veered off the road and plunged down the slope.
Interior Ministry spokesman Abdul Mateen Qani confirmed that the crash was caused by reckless driving. Images from the scene showed the bus mangled with its roof and sides collapsed, highlighting the devastating impact of the crash.

Local villagers and Taliban officials rushed to the scene, pulling bodies from the wreckage and transporting the injured to nearby hospitals. Authorities said several survivors remain in critical condition, raising fears the death toll may rise further.
The tragedy comes just days after another deadly accident in Herat province, where 81 people were killed when a vehicle carrying migrants from Iran caught fire.
Deadly road accidents remain common in Afghanistan, where poor infrastructure, reckless driving, and lack of safety enforcement have led to a surge in traffic disasters. Critics argue that the Taliban government has failed to properly regulate transport companies or enforce road safety standards, leaving passengers at constant risk.
