Grammy-winning Nigerian sensation Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy, made an unforgettable debut at the 2024 Grammys, earning accolades not only for his performance but also for his subsequent ranking at No. 6 on Billboard's list.
Burna Boy's inaugural Afrobeats performance at the Grammys captivated audiences with its sheer brilliance. Accompanied by the talented Brandy and the charismatic 21 Savage, Burna delivered a mesmerizing rendition of "Sittin' on Top of the World," exuding infectious energy and charisma throughout the production.
Billboard lauded Burna Boy's performance, noting that he "pulled out all the stops" for the historic occasion. Backed by Brandy's soulful vocals and 21 Savage's confident coolness, Burna Boy showcased why he rightfully belongs at the top. The elaborate stage setup, reminiscent of an MGM golden era musical, coupled with clever costume design, added to the spectacle of the performance. Despite their distinct styles, the performers were united by a common thread of red, enhancing the visual cohesion of the act.
Meanwhile, South African songstress Tyla emerged as a standout at the 2024 Grammy Awards, clinching the prestigious Best African Music Performance award. Tyla's chart-topping track "Water" surpassed notable Nigerian contenders, including Davido, Asake, and Burna Boy, to claim the coveted honor.
The global success of "Water," which reached the top 10 in 16 countries, including the UK and the US, underscored Tyla's talent and international appeal. The esteemed recognition was bestowed upon Tyla during the 66th Grammy Award Premiere Ceremony at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, further solidifying her status as a rising star in the music industry.
