Chilling video shows tense moment NYPD officer fires single shot that kills crazed son with mom in chokehold

Newly released footage reveals the harrowing moment when an NYPD officer fatally shot a man who had his mother in a chokehold, claiming to be armed with a knife.
The chilling scene unfolded in a Bronx apartment on December 23. The latest bodycam footage captures Officers Alex Morgese and Mohammad Hossain rushing into the residence after a 911 call reported a man behaving violently.
According to the caller, the suspect, Michael Dotel, had "ingested drugs, was acting violently, and in possession of a knife." The video commences with the officers in the building's hallway in the violence-ridden Bedford section of the borough.
Screams echo as one officer demands entry, while an unidentified individual hastily exits through the front door.
Upon entering, the officers are confronted by Dotel, 30, shouting, "Do it right now! Do it, I f***ing dare you! Do it! She's gonna get it!"
"Do you have a knife in your hand?" Morgese shouts back. Dotel screams, "Shoot me! Shoot me! Right now!" Morgese repeats, "Do you have a knife?" Dotel responds emphatically, "Do it! Do it! Do it!"
"Where's the knife? Drop the knife!" Morgese persists. Dotel claims, "I got the knife!" Morgese urges him to drop it, asking, "Where is it?" Dotel replies, "Got it!"

In that moment, Morgese fires a fatal shot at Dotel. Inside the home were his mother, Clary, 45, and his 19-year-old girlfriend.
Clary later expressed dissatisfaction with how the police handled the situation, stating she had sought help for her son's issues for weeks prior to the incident. Dotel had even sought treatment for depression at St. Barnabas Hospital, but felt he received no assistance.
A makeshift memorial outside Dotel's home included a poignant message from his sister: "To the first love of my life, I can’t believe I’m sitting here writing this. It pains me that you are no longer with us. He was depressed and he had a lot of problems. It’s very sad."

Reflecting on the ordeal, Clary recounted to ABC New York, "My son became crazy and tried to kill me. I felt like I was having a heart attack." During the altercation, Dotel, also known as "The Hulk" in his community for his strength and size, wielded a carving knife, injuring his girlfriend and mother.
At the time of his death, Dotel faced three criminal charges, with reports indicating a history of drug use and mental illness. The shooting occurred at Bedford Greenhouses, a housing facility for individuals grappling with substance abuse and other challenges, frequented by NYPD officers responding to various incidents.
A crowdfunding page established to cover Dotel's funeral expenses revealed that he is survived by two daughters, aged six months and three years old.
