Chris Brown Remanded in Custody Over Alleged Nightclub Bottle Attack in London

American R&B singer Chris Brown has been remanded in custody following a court appearance in connection with an alleged bottle attack that left a man seriously injured at a nightclub in Mayfair, central London, over a year ago.

The 36-year-old musician appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Friday, charged with causing grievous bodily harm to Abraham Diaw in an incident that allegedly occurred in February 2023. The charge stems from an altercation that reportedly took place inside a London nightclub, resulting in serious injuries.

District Judge Joanne Hirst declined to handle the case at the magistrates’ court level, stating that the offence was “too serious” and must be tried at a higher court. She ordered the case to be transferred to Southwark Crown Court in London, where Brown is expected to appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing scheduled for June 13.

An application for bail submitted by Brown’s legal team was denied by the judge, resulting in the artist being remanded in custody. Brown had been arrested early Thursday morning by detectives from the Metropolitan Police at Manchester’s Lowry Hotel.

The singer, known for his hit songs such as Go Crazy and No Guidance, is scheduled to embark on a UK tour in June and July, with performances planned at Co-Op Live in Manchester and the Principality Stadium in Cardiff. However, his current legal situation may impact those scheduled appearances.
