Corps member dies watching Super Eagles AFCON semi-finals penalty shootout

A member of the National Youth Service Corps serving in Adamawa State tragically passed away during the penalty shootouts of the match between Nigeria and South Africa on Wednesday evening.
The corps member, identified only as Samuel from Kaduna State, reportedly collapsed just before the final kick that secured Nigeria’s victory in the match, as reported by The Nation.
A witness detailed the event in a social media post, stating, “We lost a fellow Nigerian during our celebratory moment over South Africa at our sports viewing center here in Numan.
“The corps member, serving in Numan from Kaduna State, fainted just before the decisive kick of the winning goal.
“He was pronounced dead before reaching the hospital in Numan. May his soul rest in peace.”
NYSC Coordinator in Adamawa State, Jingi Dennis, confirmed the corps member's passing at the General Hospital in Numan, saying, ”I received the news of his death last night. I hope to gather more details today.
“According to his colleagues who accompanied him to watch the match, the late corps member expressed his dislike for penalty shootouts to those around him. He then bowed his head and suddenly collapsed.
“He was declared deceased at the General Hospital in Numan by the attending physician.”
Similarly, Dr. Cairo Ojougboh, a former member of the House of Representatives representing the Ika Federal Constituency of Delta State, also passed away on Wednesday evening while watching the AFCON semi-finals match between Nigeria and South Africa.
A source close to the politician revealed, “Cairo Ojougboh, a medical doctor, passed away during the Nigeria vs. South Africa match.
