A Daleville High School teacher and basketball coach has been terminated and arrested following allegations of sexually assaulting a student both on school grounds and in her home. Brady Smith, 27, faces three counts of child seduction, a Level 6 felony, after an investigation by the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office revealed a pattern of predatory behavior.

Authorities report that Smith began grooming the victim in August 2024, telling her she had “matured” since the previous year and repeatedly expressing his desire to engage in sexual activity with her. To facilitate further contact, Smith allegedly started attending the same church as the minor. Court documents indicate he visited the juvenile’s home on three separate occasions while her parents were out of town and engaged in sexual acts with her.

During these encounters, Smith reportedly told the victim he was “thinking about their future” and claimed he would divorce his wife to be with her. The situation escalated on March 16 when Smith approached the girl’s mother at church and “professed his love” for the student. Disturbed by his actions, the parents immediately reported the misconduct to the school superintendent’s office, prompting law enforcement intervention.

Smith was subsequently arrested, and the investigation remains active. Additional details may be released as authorities continue their inquiry.
