Inspector Ubi Ebri of the Nigeria Police Force was sentenced to death by the Delta State High Court in Asaba for the murder of Mr. Onyeka Ibeh, a phone dealer in Asaba. The court, presided over by Justice C. D. Diai, convicted and sentenced Inspector Ebri for fatally shooting Ibeh during a routine stop and search operation.

On April 5, 2023, Ibeh and his wife were traveling from Ugbolu to Asaba when they were stopped by a police team for a search. After waiting for an extended period without being attended to, Ibeh decided to drive away, prompting Inspector Ebri to open fire, fatally hitting Ibeh in the head.

The killing sparked protests by youths in Asaba, demanding justice for the deceased. The prosecution, led by Mr. E.H. Edema from the Ministry of Justice, accused Inspector Ebri of unlawfully killing Ibeh during the stop and search exercise.

After the judgement, Mr. Edema described it as a landmark decision that served justice to the deceased and society. Mr. Ifeanyi Ibeh, the deceased's elder brother, also praised the court for delivering justice to their family.
