The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arrested 120 suspected internet fraudsters in Lagos in a large-scale operation targeting cybercrime hotspots across the state. The arrests, carried out on Monday by operatives from the Lagos Zonal Directorate 1, were the result of what the agency described as “credible intelligence and diligent surveillance.”

According to a statement released by the Commission, the suspects include 95 males and 25 females. They were apprehended simultaneously at various locations in Lagos believed to be centers of internet-related fraudulent activities.

Items recovered during the raid include 26 luxury cars, expensive jewellery, premium smartphones, laptops, and multiple incriminating documents allegedly linking the suspects to cyber fraud schemes. The EFCC noted that the operation is part of its intensified effort to combat cybercrime and digital fraud in Nigeria, particularly in major urban hubs like Lagos, where such activities have become increasingly rampant.

The Commission stated that all suspects are currently undergoing interrogation and forensic profiling. They will be formally charged in court once investigations are concluded.

The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to eradicating financial and economic crimes in Nigeria and urged citizens to remain alert and report any suspicious financial activities or cybercrime in their communities.
