The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is set to arraign businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, before the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday, April 17, 2024. This move comes in response to public outcry regarding the perceived singling out of individuals like Bobrisky, who faced prosecution and conviction for Naira abuse. Many Nigerians voiced concerns that Bobrisky's case was not about Naira abuse but rather targeted due to his identity as a cross-dresser. The arraignment of Cubana Chief Priest aims to dispel such perceptions.

Cubana Chief Priest will face Justice Kehinde Ogundare on a three-count charge related to allegedly abusing Naira notes at a social event, which is a violation of the Central Bank Act of 2007. The charges were filed on April 4 by the EFCC's prosecutor, Senior Advocate of Nigeria Rotimi Oyedepo, along with seven other lawyers representing the anti-graft commission's chairman.

The first count accuses Okechukwu Pascal of tampering with N500 notes issued by the Central Bank of Nigeria by spraying them for two hours during a social event at Eko Hotel on February 13, 2024. The second count alleges a similar offense during a social event in Lagos in 2020, while the third count pertains to an incident in January 2024.

It's worth noting that the EFCC recently secured the conviction of Bobrisky on comparable charges, resulting in a six-month prison sentence. This latest legal action against Cubana Chief Priest is part of the EFCC's efforts to be seen as upholding the law and ensuring equal treatment under legal scrutiny, irrespective of an individual's social status or public persona.
