Elon Musk trolls Mark Zuckerberg with ‘our servers are working’ jab after major hours-long Facebook & Instagram crash
Elon Musk ribbed Mark Zuckerberg in the aftermath of Meta's outage, which left Facebook and Instagram users locked out of their profiles for hours.
On Tuesday morning, thousands turned to Musk's X, formerly Twitter, to voice frustrations over the glitches plaguing Meta's platforms.
The troubles began around 10 am on Tuesday, as hordes of users found themselves unable to log into Facebook and Instagram accounts or were abruptly logged out.
Instagram users reported stagnant feeds and app access issues.
While Meta teams rushed to resolve the problem, Musk took a dig at the social media giant's predicament.
"If you’re reading this post, it’s because our servers are working," Musk quipped on X, which he acquired in 2022 for $44 billion.
In a subsequent post, Musk shared a meme featuring four penguins from DreamWorks' Madagascar series, symbolizing Meta's platforms and X.
In the meme, three penguins, representing Facebook, Instagram, and Threads, follow the lead of the fourth, sporting the X logo.
#instagramdown, #facebook&ig, and #facebookoutage hashtags dominated X's trends.
At its peak, 500,000 Meta users reported Facebook and Instagram issues on Downdetector.
The outage coincided with the Super Tuesday presidential primaries in the United States, involving voters from 16 states and American Samoa.
Around 12 pm, Meta confirmed full restoration of their platforms.
"Earlier today, a technical issue caused people to have difficulty accessing some of our services," a Meta spokesperson stated. "We resolved the issue as quickly as possible for everyone who was impacted, and we apologize for any inconvenience."
Meta's website noted disruptions in Facebook and Instagram's marketplace and WhatsApp Business API.
Meta previously faced a major outage in October 2021, lasting over six hours.
Meanwhile, X has grappled with its own technical hiccups.
In December 2023, approximately 100,000 X users globally encountered issues, including viewing posts and receiving a "Welcome to X" message upon login.
X experienced four widespread outages in February 2023, five months into Musk's ownership.
