The Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of three suspects linked to the alleged ritual kidnapping case involving a popular native doctor known as Ezeani. The prime suspect, identified as High Chief Levi Onyeka Obu — also known as “Ezeani” and “E-Dey-Play-E-Dey-Show” — remains at large.

A 13-year-old girl, allegedly abducted for ritual purposes, was successfully rescued during a coordinated early morning operation carried out by police operatives attached to the Umumba Division, local Neighbourhood Watch personnel, and vigilant community members. The operation took place at approximately 3:15 a.m. on May 27, 2025, at Umuojor village in the Ishiagu community of Ezeagu Local Government Area.

According to a statement issued by the police and signed by SP Daniel Ndukwe, three male suspects were arrested at the scene. They were identified as Uche Kingsley Agumba, 33; Ilo Nweze Onyedikachi, 36; and Ejike Odinwankpa, 38. All are believed to be key accomplices in the suspected ritual operation.

During the rescue operation, law enforcement officers made a grim discovery — two decomposing bodies, one male and one female, buried in a concrete-sealed pit inside an uncompleted building allegedly used as a shrine by the fleeing native doctor. Investigations suggest that the deceased victims were recently murdered and buried for ritual purposes, and the rescued minor was moments away from being the next victim.

The building used as the operational base for the crimes was owned by the prime suspect. Following the discovery, the Enugu State Government moved swiftly to demolish the structure, citing its use in criminal activity.

Commissioner of Police, CP Mamman Bitrus Giwa, who visited the crime scene, praised the collaborative efforts between the police, local security outfits, and community members that led to the successful rescue. He has directed the Command’s Tactical Squads and Intelligence Units to intensify the manhunt for Ezeani and any remaining accomplices.

Authorities are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any information that may assist in the capture of the fugitive suspect.
