Family of Four Brutally Murdered in Isseke, Anambra State

A tragic incident unfolded in the early hours of Thursday, May 22, 2025, in Isseke, Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State, as a family of four was brutally murdered in their home by yet-to-be-identified assailants.

The victims, including three women and an elderly man, were reportedly attacked while asleep in their apartment. The attackers stormed the residence under the cover of darkness, executed the gruesome act, and left the lifeless bodies sprawled on the floor of their rooms. The motive for the murder remains unknown.

According to eyewitnesses in the area, the gunmen appeared to carry out the act without provocation. The victims were identified as the family of Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo of Ekwuru Isseke, also known by his traditional title, Ichie Akuruoulo 1 of Isseke.

The Anambra State Police Command confirmed the incident through its spokesman, SP Tochukwu Ikenga. He stated that a joint security team involving the police, military, and other operatives swiftly cordoned off the area to maintain order and prevent further attacks.

"Following the simultaneous onslaught and joint clearance operations aimed at dislodging criminal elements across the state, we regrettably recorded the cowardly and gruesome murder of a family of four by unknown gunmen in Isseke, Ihiala," Ikenga said.

He added that preliminary investigations revealed the attackers struck without provocation, and the bodies have since been recovered and deposited in a local mortuary. The command expressed condolences to the bereaved family and the community, assuring that investigators are following leads to identify and apprehend the perpetrators.

Reinforcements have been deployed to the area, and the joint security team remains on high alert to respond to any further threats. Authorities have urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity.
