Fans Mourn Veteran Actor Amaechi Muonagor Who died Yesterday at 61

The passing of veteran Nollywood actor Amaechi Muonagor at the age of 61 has deeply saddened fans, who fondly remember him for his comical roles on screen.

On Sunday, social media platforms were filled with messages of mourning as fans expressed their grief over the loss of the actor, who had been battling kidney disease for some time.

Emeka Rollas, Chairman of the Actors Guild of Nigeria, was not immediately available for comment on Muonagor's demise, as attempts to reach him via phone calls and texts went unanswered on Sunday evening.

Social commentator Morris Monye, known as @Morris_Monye on X, lamented Muonagor's passing and mentioned efforts made to support the actor during his health struggles.

Muonagor had been dealing with kidney failure and undergoing dialysis treatments. His passing comes shortly after a video went viral showing him seeking financial assistance for a kidney transplant.

Expressing his sorrow, Monye wrote, "I am deeply saddened by Amaechi Muonagor's passing. He was a talented actor whose performances on screen were truly exceptional. We followed his health journey closely, offering whatever help we could to facilitate his treatment in India. This sad event underscores the urgent need for improved healthcare in our nation."

In the viral social media video, Muonagor appeared in poor health, lying in bed with a bandage on his chest, and struggling to speak. Another actor in the video explained Muonagor's need for funds to undergo a kidney transplant.

The news of Muonagor's death comes at a time when Nigerians are still mourning the loss of another Nollywood actor, John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, who recently passed away.

On social media, users shared their condolences and reflected on the state of healthcare in Nigeria. Some emphasized the need for better healthcare infrastructure, political commitment, and visionary leadership to address the country's healthcare challenges.

Amaechi Muonagor, a native of Anambra State, was born on August 20, 1962.
