At least five people are dead and dozens more injured after a Niagara Falls tour bus overturned on Interstate 90 in western New York, throwing passengers out of shattered windows as the vehicle rolled.
The crash occurred Friday in the town of Pembroke, near Buffalo, while the bus was traveling from Niagara Falls to New York City with 54 people on board. According to investigators, the driver became distracted, lost control of the vehicle, and then over-corrected, causing the bus to roll over into a ditch.

Passengers were violently ejected through windows as the glass shattered. Multiple victims were trapped beneath the bus before rescue crews pulled them out. Authorities confirmed that many of the passengers were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the accident.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene, with multiple Mercy Flight helicopters airlifting severely injured victims to local hospitals. At least two children and two adults were flown for emergency treatment. Officials reported that passengers ranged in age from one to 74 and included individuals of Indian, Chinese, and Filipino descent.

The driver survived the crash and is cooperating with investigators. A preliminary investigation has ruled out both mechanical failure and driver impairment as factors.
New York State Police shut down both directions of I-90 following the accident, causing heavy traffic delays as ambulances, fire trucks, and helicopters crowded the interstate.

New York Governor Kathy Hochul confirmed she had been briefed on the tragedy and said her office was coordinating with state police and local officials. Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz described the scene as a “serious mass casualty bus accident,” while Attorney General Letitia James called the crash “heartbreaking” and praised first responders for their efforts.
Photos from the crash site showed the overturned bus surrounded by dozens of emergency vehicles as rescue workers pulled victims from the wreckage.
