Five U.S. soldiers were shot by a fellow service member in an active shooter incident at Fort Stewart in Georgia on Wednesday morning, prompting a swift response from military and law enforcement officials. The shooting occurred in the 2nd Armored Brigade Combat Team area and was reported at 10:56 a.m. The suspect, identified as a male soldier, was apprehended at 11:35 a.m., according to Fort Stewart officials.
Authorities confirmed that there is no ongoing threat to the military community. No fatalities were reported in the incident. The conditions of the wounded soldiers remain unclear; however, two of the victims were transported to Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, a Level 1 trauma facility, for emergency treatment.

Located approximately 40 miles southwest of Savannah, Fort Stewart is one of the U.S. Army’s key installations in the southeastern United States. The motive behind the shooting remains under investigation, and details surrounding the circumstances have not been publicly disclosed.
Georgia Governor Brian Kemp responded to the news by expressing support for the affected service members and their families. “We are keeping the victims, their families, and all those who answer the call to serve in our hearts and prayers,” Kemp stated.
President Donald Trump was briefed on the shooting, according to the White House.

U.S. military bases operate under strict firearm regulations. Access to combat weapons is tightly controlled, with firearms stored in base armories and only issued for use during field training exercises. At the end of such training, the weapons are returned to secure storage. Service members may own legally registered personal firearms, but strict protocols govern how they are transported and used on military installations.
The incident has renewed attention on base security and internal threats within military environments.
