A 32-year-old Florida math teacher is facing multiple felony charges after authorities accused her of engaging in a sexual relationship with a former student, including encounters in her classroom during lunch breaks.
Sarah Jacas, a teacher at Corner Lake Middle School in Orange County Public Schools (OCPS), was arrested Monday following allegations that she had sexual contact with a student when he was 14 years old. According to an arrest affidavit, the now-16-year-old victim told investigators the encounters occurred between December 2022 and April 2023.
The victim reportedly ate lunch in Jacas’ classroom due to social difficulties at school. Their relationship allegedly extended beyond school hours, with the two exchanging text messages until the boy’s parents intervened. Authorities say Jacas then switched to communicating via Instagram.
The case came to light after Jacas’ husband discovered the relationship and threatened to report her, according to court documents.
Jacas faces charges including two counts of lewd or lascivious battery (custodial authority), two counts of lewd or lascivious molestation (custodial authority), and one count of soliciting or engaging in sexual conduct by an authority figure. Her bond was set at $19,000.
OCPS confirmed Jacas is a 10-month employee and not currently working during summer break. In a message to parents, the school’s principal stated that Jacas will not return to campus pending the investigation’s outcome.
The district’s Office of Professional Standards is cooperating with law enforcement in the ongoing case.
