A Port Charlotte father discovered a man renting a room in his home lying on top of his seven-year-old daughter with his pants around his ankles, leading to the tenant’s arrest. Daniel D’Angelo, 53, a registered sex offender who had not disclosed his status to the family, was arrested on August 17 and charged with lewd conduct and failure to register as a sexual offender.
According to the arrest report, the girl’s father found D’Angelo shirtless with his jeans around his ankles, on top of the child in her bedroom. An altercation ensued, and the father took photographs as evidence. The images allegedly showed D’Angelo pulling up his pants and leaving the room. The victim told investigators she woke up to find D’Angelo on top of her, touching her leg and putting his finger in her ear before her father intervened.
Investigators recovered D’Angelo’s shirt from the girl’s bed. D’Angelo denied the allegations, claiming he was set up, but admitted to being a registered sex offender and an alcoholic, confirming he had been drinking that day. He had moved into the home, located about an hour north of Fort Myers, just weeks prior.
Former acquaintances expressed concerns about D’Angelo’s behavior. A previous roommate, Robin Hart, stated she was afraid of him due to his persistent banging on her door. A former landlord, Kevin, described D’Angelo as frequently intoxicated to the point of being unaware of his actions.
D’Angelo remains in jail on a $150,000 bond for the lewd conduct charge and a $100,000 bond for failing to register his new address, as required by Florida law within 48 hours of moving. The homeowner confirmed D’Angelo never disclosed his status as a registered sex offender.
