A 27-year-old Florida high school teacher is facing felony charges after authorities accused her of engaging in an eight-month sexual relationship with a student, including an alleged encounter in her classroom just hours before her arrest.

Brooke Anderson, a science teacher at Riverview High School southeast of Tampa, was charged with three counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office. Investigators say the illicit relationship began in September 2023 with explicit text messages before escalating to multiple sexual encounters.

The most recent alleged incident occurred inside Anderson’s classroom on the morning of May 16, where authorities say she had sex with the student before classes began. She was arrested later that day and booked into jail before being released on 45,000 bond (15,000 per charge) the following day.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister condemned Anderson’s actions, stating, “This teacher betrayed the trust of a student, a school, and an entire community. What should have been a safe, supportive environment for learning was exploited for abuse. Her actions are criminal, calculated, and deeply disturbing.”

If found guilty, she faces up to 15 years in prison

Under Florida law, unlawful sexual activity with a minor is a second-degree felony, punishable by up to 15 years in prison. Anderson has not yet entered a plea, and it remains unclear whether she has legal representation.

Hillsborough County Public Schools confirmed Anderson had been employed since November 2021 and taught Biology, passing all required background checks before hiring. The district suspended her pending termination following the allegations.
