Authorities in Florida have identified the body of an 18-year-old woman discovered floating in a canal after a series of crashes that left three other people injured.

The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office (MDSO) confirmed on Tuesday, September 16, that the victim was Angelina Plasencia.

The chain of events began on Sunday night, September 14, when deputies responded around 11:30 p.m. to a missing person report near NW 72 Avenue and NW 58 Street. Detectives with the MDSO Missing Persons Unit searched the area but were unable to locate Plasencia at that time.

The following morning, September 15, investigators returned to the same area and spotted what appeared to be a body floating in a canal. Divers were called in to recover the remains, later identified as Plasencia.

Further investigation revealed that multiple people in a vehicle had been involved in a crash at NW 74 Avenue and NW 58 Street. According to the sheriff’s office, one occupant got out to check on the driver of the other vehicle while the remaining passengers fled the scene.

Shortly after, the same vehicle was involved in a second collision on the northbound ramp of SR 826 at NW 58 Street. The occupants abandoned the car, fled on foot, and arranged to be picked up by a friend on a motorcycle. At some point during this sequence, Plasencia was ejected from the motorcycle, leading to her death.

Three other people were injured in the incidents, though their conditions have not yet been disclosed. Authorities continue to investigate the crashes, hit-and-run, and circumstances surrounding Plasencia’s death.
