A Florida woman has been arrested after allegedly running over her husband with her car during a violent altercation that ended with the man critically injured, according to authorities.

Dugblis Rojas Jimenez, 43, is facing multiple charges, including attempted second-degree murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, reckless driving causing serious bodily injury, and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage. She is being held at Brevard County Jail on $180,000 bond.

The incident began Tuesday at a Wawa convenience store in Cocoa, a town about 45 miles southeast of Orlando. Witnesses reported a heated verbal altercation between Jimenez and her husband before the man climbed onto the hood of her white sedan. Surveillance footage reviewed by investigators showed the man initially getting on and off the vehicle before ultimately clinging to the hood as Jimenez drove away.

Police said witnesses saw Jimenez drive out of the parking lot at a high speed while making sharp turns in an attempt to throw her husband off. When those maneuvers failed, she allegedly made a U-turn and collided with another vehicle, causing the man to fall from the hood before he climbed back on.

Additional surveillance footage from nearby businesses captured the car swerving between lanes. At one point, the victim slid across the hood and eventually fell onto the pavement. According to investigators, Jimenez’s car then ran over him with the front right wheel before crashing into a curb and traffic control device.

The man was thrown 71 feet from the impact, police said. He was later airlifted to Holmes Regional Medical Center in critical condition, suffering a skull fracture and brain bleed.

Authorities confirmed the suspect and victim are married. While in custody, Jimenez requested a lawyer due to a language barrier and claimed she had been scared of her husband during the confrontation.

Court records show Jimenez is expected back in court on September 16. Immigration and Customs Enforcement is also expected to place a detainer on her, according to her attorney.
