A fugitive husband accused of murdering his wife and disposing of her body in Angeles National Forest has been captured in Peru and will be extradited to the United States to face a murder charge.
Authorities confirmed that Jossimar Cabrera, 36, surrendered to officials in Lima, who then notified the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department of his detention. Cabrera is now set to be extradited to California, where he will face charges related to the killing of his wife, Sheylla Cabrera, 33.

Sheylla was reported missing on August 12 by concerned neighbors. Investigators later uncovered Ring camera footage showing Cabrera dragging a large object wrapped in a sheet from the couple’s Lancaster apartment, which they shared with their three young sons.
Police suspected foul play and launched a large-scale search operation in the Angeles National Forest, north of Los Angeles. On August 17, the Montrose Mountain Search and Rescue Team discovered Sheylla’s body inside a bundle similar to the one captured on surveillance video, discarded down an embankment.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine her official cause of death, but detectives are pursuing murder charges. “This case will be presented to the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office for their consideration of filing murder charges against Jossimar Cabrera and obtaining the necessary documents to secure his return to the United States,” the Sheriff’s Department stated.

Meanwhile, the couple’s three children were located in Peru and placed in protective custody. Cabrera had initially been detained at the Lima airport but was briefly released as he had not yet been charged.
Family members have since come forward with allegations of abuse. Sheylla’s mother, Helga Rocillo Morán, revealed that her daughter had been subjected to violence at home and had expressed a desire to return to Peru. “She told me that [Cabrera] hit her, mistreated her, and had even hit my youngest grandchild, who is only three years old,” Morán said.

She added that Cabrera misled her by claiming Sheylla had been detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, despite the agency’s offices being closed on Sundays and her daughter’s appointment scheduled weeks later. “There’s no report with ICE. If she were deported, she would have called me by now,” Morán insisted.
Neighbors also reported hearing loud screams from the home before Sheylla vanished, while a family friend said authorities later discovered blood stains outside the condominium. Surveillance video further showed the couple entering their home together, followed by Cabrera leaving alone and dragging the suspicious sack later linked to Sheylla’s body.
Cabrera now awaits extradition proceedings as officials work to return him to Los Angeles to face murder charges.
