Carroll County, Georgia — A 17-year-old girl has been charged with the murder of her mother and stepfather, whose bodies were discovered by the couple’s 5-year-old daughter in their Tyus home on February 20. Sarah Grace Patrick surrendered to authorities at the Carroll County Jail on Tuesday and is facing two counts of murder and two counts of aggravated assault.
The victims, 41-year-old Kristen Brock and 45-year-old James Brock, were found dead in bed by their young daughter. Authorities say Patrick, who allegedly committed the murders, was the one who made the 911 call. There were no signs of forced entry, although one door was slightly ajar, and nothing was reported stolen.

Carroll County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Ashley Hulsey described the case as a “horrific crime” during a press briefing, adding that the investigation was thorough and spanned several months. “From the very moment the 911 call was received, a relentless investigation began,” Hulsey said. Investigators worked closely with the FBI and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) to review physical and digital evidence, including what Hulsey described as a key piece: Patrick’s tearful speech at her mother’s funeral, which authorities now believe was an attempt to conceal her involvement.
Patrick, who will be tried as an adult, has lived in various households and was reportedly “kind of out on her own,” according to officials. Investigators are still trying to determine a motive and have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests. “We don’t know what goes through the mind of a child who wants to harm their parents,” Hulsey stated. “Any information, no matter how small, could be the key that cracks this case wide open.”

Authorities say the most tragic aspect of the case is the trauma endured by the couple’s youngest daughter. “A little girl who was in the home, to me, she is probably the saddest victim in all of this,” Hulsey added.
Kristen and James Brock were active members of Catalyst Church and are remembered by friends and fellow parishioners as loving and generous people. “Kristen was bubbly and fun and loved hugs,” said Tasha Meza. “James always cracked jokes and made you laugh.” Church member Janelle Thompson described Kristen as “the friend you would want to have around.”
The couple is survived by their seven children from a blended family. Prior to Patrick’s arrest, members of the community pleaded for the person responsible to come forward. “We all make mistakes, but this family doesn’t need to suffer more,” said parishioner Jonan Daniel in February.
If convicted, Sarah Grace Patrick could face life in prison without the possibility of parole.
