Greek shipping heiress and fashion entrepreneur Marissa Laimos, also known as Lemos, has died at the age of 28 in London after reportedly suffering complications from an insect bite. She was discovered lifeless in her bed on September 11 by her housekeeper, just one day after being discharged from a hospital where she had sought urgent treatment.

Family members revealed that Marissa began feeling unwell on September 10, experiencing dizziness, itching, fever, and other symptoms of infection. A doctor who visited her at home prescribed paracetamol, but her condition did not improve. She then went to a London hospital, where her oncologist arranged for her to be transferred to another hospital by ambulance.

Relatives claimed that, at the second hospital, nurses, rather than doctors, examined her and decided she did not require admission. She was discharged in the evening with antibiotics and a diagnosis pointing to an insect bite. Less than 24 hours later, she was found dead in her apartment.

Her mother, Bessy, said she believed toxic shock from an insect bite caused her daughter’s death. “My daughter had survived cancer and died from an insect,” she said. “She was a girl with so many gifts, all of England is crying, all her doctors too.”

An autopsy has not yet been completed, and results are expected within a week. The hospital reportedly admitted that a serious error had been made and has launched an internal investigation into the circumstances surrounding her discharge.

Marissa’s friends described her as a talented and modest young woman deeply committed to the arts. She had recently staged a production of Romeo and Juliet in London and was preparing another theater project. She previously worked with renowned fashion designers Sonia Rykiel and John Galliano in Paris before founding Rainbow Wave, a company that introduced international brands to London retailers.

The Laimos family, one of Greece’s most prominent shipping dynasties with business roots dating back to the early 20th century, is now mourning the loss of their daughter, whose life spanned the worlds of high society, fashion, and theatre.
