Gunmen kill a community leader in Anambra State
Unknown assailants have taken the life of Silas Onyima, the President-General of Umuoji Community in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Although details are still scarce, reports indicate that around 15 hoodlums stormed Onyima's residence on Friday evening, fatally shooting him and sparking panic throughout the community.
According to a source, "The deceased had recently been elected as the president-general of our community and had overseen a local election. He was tragically killed on Friday evening when masked individuals entered his home and carried out the attack."
Confirming the incident, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the state police spokesman, stated, "The police are aware of the situation. Upon receiving the information, we swiftly deployed our officers to the area. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim in a critical condition. Regrettably, he succumbed to his injuries."
"The deceased's body has been recovered and taken to the morgue with the assistance of family members. We are collaborating with eyewitnesses and members of the community to identify and apprehend the perpetrators. Investigations are currently underway."
