Indiana church fires pastor accused of having sex with foster daughter over 100 times
A week after the accusations surfaced against lead pastor Errol Wright of Community Christian Church in Tell City, Indiana, stating he had sexual relations with his teenage foster daughter over 100 times, the church has announced his termination and expressed sorrow over the situation.
The church released a statement acknowledging the shock and hurt felt by the community. They delayed making a statement to allow Wright's family, deeply involved in the church, time to process the situation. The church emphasized taking such accusations seriously, resulting in Wright's immediate termination and complete disengagement from the church.
Wright faces charges of sexual misconduct with a minor and child seduction, having been released on a nearly $48,000 cash bond with a pre-trial hearing scheduled for April 3.
In addition to severing ties with Wright, the church addressed misconceptions about their financial involvement in his defense, clarifying that all funds supporting him were given voluntarily by individuals and not from church funds.
The statement also requested continued prayers for everyone affected and for divine guidance in navigating this challenging time.
The accusations against Wright were brought forth by Lily Masterson, now an adult, who reported that the abuse began in 2016 when she was 15 and continued until she turned 18. Wright, along with his wife, served as Masterson's foster parents. Masterson detailed instances of abuse, including forced sexual encounters and emotional manipulation.
Despite the traumatic experiences, Masterson expressed her faith in God as a source of strength and recovery, though she admitted losing faith in the reliability of people. She shared her journey of healing through rehab and counseling after facing homelessness and substance abuse.
