An Indianapolis mother and her two children are facing criminal charges after allegedly attacking a middle school student on a school bus, resulting in serious injuries. The incident occurred on March 6 in Warren Township, a suburb of Indianapolis, and was captured on the bus’s security cameras as well as in videos taken by students.
Latea Hentz, 36, along with her 17-year-old daughter and 13-year-old son, allegedly boarded the school bus despite the driver’s warning that parents were not permitted. Ignoring the directive, Hentz reportedly told the driver to call the police before approaching an eighth-grade student. Her two children then began attacking the student while Hentz encouraged the violence.

Witnesses reported hearing Hentz shouting explicit instructions for her children to continue the assault. Other students on the bus pleaded for the attack to stop, but Hentz and her daughter allegedly responded with threats. At one point, the 17-year-old allegedly turned to a 10-year-old girl and asked if she "wanted some too." The attack only ended when law enforcement arrived.
According to police, the 14-year-old victim was severely beaten, suffering a fractured nose and a bruised, swollen left eye. He was taken to Riley Children’s Hospital for treatment. During an interview with the Warren Township police’s child abuse unit, the student provided a different account of prior events. He claimed that Hentz’s son had been making racist jokes and comments about immigration enforcement before the attack.
Hentz told authorities that her son had been bullied for weeks and that the victim had slapped him the day before. She alleged that school officials were aware of the bullying but failed to intervene.
Initially charged with misdemeanor battery, disorderly conduct, intimidation, and trespassing, Hentz now faces four felony charges: criminal confinement, battery resulting in moderate injury, intimidation, and criminal trespass. Her two children are also under investigation and may face charges related to the assault.
